Update 4/7/17:  We just got word that the course is in great shape and ready for us this weekend.  The only course change we will have to make is to cut off the Mud Creek loop.

Friday the Lawrence Mountain Bike Club will be out working on the course and getting everything setup for this weekend.  Any course changes will be announced on Friday afternoon.  Please check back.

The venue...

Off-Road heaven is what some call it.  The Lawrence River Trails (LRT) which are maintained by the Lawrence Mountain Bike Club offers a trail system that is fun for all ability levels and is rideable by absolutely anyone. The trails have the perfect combination of flowing dirt single track, hairpin turns, berms, and rolling hills. Expert to beginners will all enjoy the LRT.

Our festival...

Saturday morning (9:00 am) brings us the God’s Country Off-Road Duathlon.  For over a  decade this has been a fun and challenging multisport event for all ability levels.  This year we again increase the fun opportunities by offering both Long and Short course options.  Age-Group, Clydesdale, Relay Teams and Unicycle divisions are available.  It’s a great event for first timers.

Saturday afternoon brings us a challenging 3 hour event - The God's Country MTB Marathon presented by Club Ride Apparel .  We have moved the popular Marathon event to Saturday which will allow everyone to enjoy the course and challenge themselves with the course all to themselves. 

Sunday is the popular God’s Country Mountain Bike Classic presented by VANDOIT.com.   This will be the opening round of the 2017 Unified Federation of Dirt West series.  Traditional cross country mountain bike classes for all ability levels: Expert (Cat 1), Sport (Cat 2), Beginners (Cat 3), Clydesdale (225+), Juniors and Masters 60+.  We also added two special classes for this years event:  The popular BMX division returns (BMX and Cruiser bikes allowed) and a tandem class.  Bring your off-road tandem and enjoy a fun and challenging event.

Both days Stan will be providing free food.  We will also have free music. Come on out and get some FAT TIRE FUN.

God's Country Updates 04/13/16

After months of preparation and training, the time has come for the 2016 God's Country Fat Tire Festival.  Just as you have trained hard we have worked hard to bring you this years events and hope everyone will enjoy themselves and have some Fat Tire fun this weekend.

Online registration is closed.  Please help us and save yourself some time and money by registering online.  We still have some event t-shirts available so register and get yours.  You can still register at the event during race day registration.

Fat Tire Festival Events

Cow Town Cycling Team and the LMBC would like to invite you to join us in Lawrence, Kansas over the April 16 & 17, 2016 weekend for the God's Country Fat Tire Festival.  We have two fun filled days of off-road excitement planned.

The 2016 God's Country Fat Tire Festival has an event for everyone who enjoys mountain biking and trail running. Our annual festival gets under way Saturday with the 13th Annual God's Country Off-Road duathlon. A super fun event for all ability levels - Veteran endurance athletes will challenge themselves in the Long Course and we have a Short Course option for those newer to the sport.  Rock the Duathlon on your own or partner up ( Long Course only) if you are not ready to tackle the whole event alone. Sunday brings us the return of the God's Country Mountain Bike Classic.  This will be the opening round of the 2016 Unified Federation of Dirt West Series.   All events take place at the Lawrence River Trails which are the most popular trails in our area or good reason.  Fun for the entire family.

• Long Course Duathlon: The long course duathlon begins with a 4 mile trail run on a combination of levee and single track trail.  After your run you will enter the transition area where you hop on your mountain bike for 2 fun filled laps of the Lawrence River Trails for a total of 20  miles of mountain biking.
• Short Course Duathlon: The short course duathlon begins with a 2 mile trail run on a combination of levee and single track trail.   After your run you will enter the transition area where you hop on your mountain bike for 1 lap of the Lawrence River Trail for a total of 10 miles of mountain biking. 
• Cross Country Mountain Bike Race: Traditional cross country mountain bike classes including the popular Marathon (3 hour Endurance) and our new Fat Tire (3.8" wide tires) and BMX  bike fun classes.

Cross Country Mountain Bike racing returns to the Lawrence River Trails on June 22, 2014 with the annual God's Country Mountain Bike Classic.  This years event will also serve as the 2014 Kansas State Mountain Bike Championships.

*****Below is your starting order. The first start time for each category is at the top of the page. You need to be in Staging 5 Minutes BEFORE THIS TIME! 

******If you are late to your start time, the clock starts and you will be sent to the back of your Category. That means the clock will be ticking but you will have to wait until all the riders in your category leave on their respective time. Be respectful, be responsible and be in line ready to go.

We will be posting adding updates as our event gets closer, so check back often.

TIMETRIAL:The start time for the time trial has been pushed back to 1:00 pm with staging at 12:45p Due to the number of registrants participating in the long course, we need to insure all duo participants are off the course before the Time Trial begins.

Starting order and times will be posted here Friday evening and updated Saturday evening with any late registrations. There will be times posted at registration as well. Please find your starting time and be ready to go. We will be leaving in 30 sec. increments and if you miss your time...the clock is still ticking. Make sure you are at the staging area in plenty of time.

DUO SHORT COURSE-LONG COURSE-TEAMS:Start time is 9 a.m.  Have your bike in transition prior to 8:30 a.m. We will have a meeting at 8:30 a.m. near the registration tent. Please make sure you are present.

PARKING: parking is limited in the lower parking lot at the race site. When this is full please park at the Visitors center. They have plenty of parking and it is a short distance down the level. DO NOT PARK IN SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS You will be subject to parking tickets. We are not responsible if you choose to park in the neighborhood and you get a ticket. See below map.

FOOD: The Truck Stop will be serving delicious food all day! They will also have coffee and Hot Cocoa. Below is there race day menu.

There will be Packet Pick up available Race Day beginning at 7:00 a. m. It is recommended to pick up your race packet prior to Race Day to insure you have plenty of time.

***All MTB Time Trial Registrations received after Midnight Wednesday March 19th will have a starting time at the end of the line.
All Pre-Registered riders will be given their start times in their packets and will be posted on the website Thursday evening.

Parking is limited at the Lawrence River Trails trail head.  See map below for parking options.

Course maps for the 2014 God's Country Fat Tire Festival  are below. 

• Run course is ~ 2 miles in length.  
• The duathlon starts on the levee and then enters the run course.
• Runners will proceed in a counter clockwise direction
• Short course will complete one 2 mile loop
• Long course will complete a 2 mile loop and then complete an additional loop after their bike leg.

• Bike course is ~ 10 miles in length
• Cyclist will proceed in a clockwise direction
• Short course will complete 1 full lap
• Long course will complete 2 full laps
• Mountain Bike Time Trial will complete 1 full lap

Work Day at the River Trails

The Lawrence Mountain Bike Club is having a work day this Saturday to help get the trails in shape for our upcoming big event.

The Lawrence River Trail
8th & Oak, North Lawrence

It is time to get the dirt ready for another season.

We have several volunteers who agreed to lead the work crews.
Each crew is going to take one or two severely damaged areas and
make major repairs to that part of the trail.
This may involve slight changes and regrading or in some cases complete reroutes.
We will also be doing a general cleanup and brushing of the entire trail.

We need everyone to come out on the 15th.

We will meet at 9:00 at the trailhead.
Plan to work 'til noon.
